Mission

The Hungarian Government established our institution, the Educational Authority, as a result of the institutional and operational modernization of public administration.   The Educational Authority embodies the organizations which perform educational administrational tasks.  It keeps and operates the territorial network of the former National Centre for Assessment and Examination in Public Education as Regional Directorates, and also delegates additional tasks to them.

Part of our operation is public, such as the organization of central, written examinations, preceding entrance examinations of secondary schools, matriculations, as well as national educational competitions. Our task is the administration of applicants to higher education including the determination of the scores needed for a successful application, which controls the allocation of the applicants among Universities and Colleges.  Further to these, operating and evaluating PISA and other competency surveys aiming at quality controlthat are increasingly coming into the scope of the public’s interestare also a part of our responsibilities.  We, in the Educational Authority,  try to ensure, however, on a larger scale, that everybody can access services they earn in the field of formal education and recognition of qualifications and certificates. Thus,  we operate the Hungarian Equivalence and Information Centre, the Accreditation Centre for Foreign Language Examinations, and operate in cases of institutional and individual official affairs.

Our most important task is to help those citizens, who wish to learn, to get a state-of-the-art public service.  For this, and in order to spend the money of taxpayers as efficient as possible, we try to increase transparency in the operation of secondary and higher educational institutions and measure performances in the educational sector.
